About the Oscars:
I was moved by Ludwig Goransson’s acceptance speech. Not the fact that he won but by what he said: “Who would’ve thought we’d be standing here 12 years ago” (I paraphrase).
Two things come to mind:
1- he’s pursued his dream for (at least) 12 years
2- He’s maintained a relationship with his director for an equally long time.
…he stayed committed for a LONG time with no guarantee of success or short term reward.
This business has never been easy and as Brian Helgeland once told me: “last man standing wins”.
I find this terribly inspiring- as should all aspiring film composers. As they say in my adopted hometown of Nashville: “don’t confuse your short term greed with your long term greed”.
