Discovery/royalties: it’s not “quality” vs “generic” music

As we continue to discuss the Discovery Channel situation, I think it absolutely vital to keep one thing in mind – this is not a debate about using “quality” vs “generic” music. It’s a stand against a predatory business practice that affects ALL musicians – not just full time LA composers.

If we go down the path of “quality” vs “generic” then we insult every part time musician who’s ever lent a track to a music library – who, normally, should still be getting their writers share, whether or not this is a full time gig for them or not.

If this devolves into that kind of rhetoric, we’ll end up looking like a bunch of whiny, elitist pricks. And we’ll lose.
