The pragmatist in me listens to people stating what they want and why they want it and usually keep waiting and waiting for the second part of their statement where they declare their suggested course of action to achieve what they want.

“THEREFORE…”

Unfortunately, most of the time the “THEREFORE…” half of the equation is missing.  People can state all day their wish list (higher fees, royalties, residuals, etc) and they can also articulate why they think they deserve it (fairness, comparisons to others, can’t make a living without, etc.).  But if simply sharing your desires and justification for them into the ether (or on social media, or in a meme, or in a protest) is not yielding having those wishes granted (and they rarely do), then what???

THE HARD PART

How do you attempt to go and get what you want?  That starts with combining your wishes/justifications with extreme strong, well-thought out “therefores” of actions to take.   Those “therefores” need to be designed to actually bring about change towards your desired outcomes.

HOW TO AVOID JUST SHAKING YOUR FIST AT THE CLOUDS

It is almost always easier to take inventory of what you want and why you think you deserve it than it is to convince others in a position to grant those wishes to actually change course and give into what you desire.  And it is for that reason most people are experts on declaring what they want and largely amateurs in formulating a “therefore” game plan for achieving it.

NEXT TIME YOU START SAYING WHAT YOU WANT, BE SURE TO ADD THE THEREFORE OF WHAT YOU ARE PLANNING TO DO TO GET IT.
