From the perspective of someone who has been involved in thousands of film, tv and game deals at all levels I can attest that there is no general “formula” to determine composer fees or recording packages based on a project’s budget.

There are WAY to many variables including:

  1. Type of score
  2. Type of project
  3. Composer in question
  4. Creative fee vs. all-in package 
  5. Allocation of overall music budget including songs. 
  6. Leverage on both sides


When someone chimes in about fees, budgets and formulas ask yourself about that person’s level of experience and expertise on this particular subject.
