Forum member Kenny Wood made an excellent suggestion based on Nadia Wheaton’s post to create guidelines for Composers’ Assistants.
Wood suggested:
“To get a small committee of some composers and assistants and establish some basic standard of assisting expectations. Not something that has to be followed to the tee by everyone, but at least a guideline for someone inexperienced to recognize if he or she is being mistreated.”
Personally, I think it is a fantastic idea.
Once these guidelines are established I will gladly forward them to the composers I work with and know, as I am sure others will, too.
Now comes the challenging part: How to form that committee and how to reach consensus. It is now upon others to initiate, organize and run.
Looking forward to reading and forwarding the results.
