One of the first films I scored was a slasher parody about a butter knife killer that I also wrote, directed, edited and co-starred in. Don’t get me wrong, it was TERRIBLE and will never see the light of day but it gave me some much needed experience writing to picture and material for my demo.

It was 20 years ago and some friends and I with aspirations of breaking into the film industry decided that rather than wait around for an opportunity we would create our own. Admittedly we were also driven by the desire to make our friends laugh but the end result was a learning experience that we wouldn’t have had otherwise.

We borrowed a camera and filmed at a local college. There were stunts, fight scenes, special effects and even a Kafkaesque split personality twist at the end. I edited it on two VHS decks, scored it and “premiered” it on a big screen at the school for our friends. We never showed it again but having that music and adding a credit to my nearly empty resume helped land some “real” short films.
