SHOULD A COMPOSER UNDERSTAND NOTATION?

I came into an interesting situation as I am progressing as a composer. I came into some work that requires site reading for piano playing. I can play the piano, but, I cannot read music! I do everything by ear and midi. Is there anyone these days that is a full working professional composer that cannot read music and simply does everything in their DAW or subcontracts out the score to someone else if it is going to be recorded in a live setting? Is this a total detriment? lets say by the grace of the gods I suddenly hit the lottery of luck and get hired to do a major motion picture, would I be totally screwed if I was inept in notation? I guess I should start learning, hesitantly, as learning all the theory seems a little dry compared to simply creating. What are you thoughts and or experience?

UPDATE: Alright my friends. First off I just want to thank everyone for chiming in on this. I feel super appreciative that I can ask for the advice and opinions of working professionals and everyone on here. The depth of responses are fantastic and so useful for me. Wow lucky me!!! My main concern was a fear that if I didn’t know notation, and I happened to get a higher end job, then I would not be worthy of that job and I would have to give it up. Reading all of the responses helped quell that fear. Just now I had a job to record some piano, I couldn’t read it, but I had a friend who came over who offered to read and play it. When we sat together and I looked at everything, I remembered that I somehow knew what a lot the notation meant, and it wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought it was… It was actually a lot more fun than what I thought! It all started to make a lot of sense once he started it off for me. I offered to pay my friend half of the money, but multiple times he refused, so I made him a fresh fruit shake, and I will buy him a nice surprise gift in the future. I can see how learning this will definitely help me a great deal, and as I focus on my music I will continue to learn notation as I progress, who knows what the future holds, learning this stuff could really pay off one day. Thank you everyone! I am very grateful
