As someone who has spent over 30 years working with composers, I can vouch for this:
YOU CAN MAKE PROGRESS OR YOU CAN MAKE EXCUSES.
All the blather of “I’m too busy…” “I didn’t know…” “They didn’t…” can be roughly translated into…
“I DIDN’T WANT TO REALLY INVEST IN FIGURING IT OUT AND MAKE IT WORK.”
BEFORE going to those excuses, be honest with yourself. Is it possible that the reasons for this lack of investment are:
1. Fear
2. Ego
3. Laziness
4. Pride
5. Old habits
6. Misguided priorities
7. Shortsightedness
8. Lack of ambition
9. Unwillingness to take risks
10. Lack of commitment
Take an honest inventory of your motivations prior to dishing out excuses.
