I thought it would be nice to hear about everyone’s path to working in media music. We all come from such different backgrounds yet here we are doing similar things.
I didn’t grow up listening to film scores at all. I watched tons of TV and movies and played NES constantly but never really considered media music a career choice. I didn’t even know that existed.
Growing up, my house was filled with Dylan, The Beatles and The Allman Brothers. I wanted to be a rock guitarist and play stadiums. I didn’t stumble upon film music until college when I flunked a Beethoven music theory exam. My professor said it was more Danny Elfman than Beethoven. I said “Danny who?” and then fell down the rabbit hole.
