When I was 21 I worked at a low budget film company, Cannon Films.
Most of the other employees there loved bitching about how crappy the films were (yes, they were almost all turds), how lousy the pay was (minimum wage for unlimited hours was the norm), how stupid the bosses were (they were colorful to say the least), how lousy the working conditions were (duct tape help together most of the furniture) and how under appreciated they were (very).
A handful of others weren’t hanging out at the water cooler bitching and venting. They were too busy working their asses off and getting work done beyond any reasonable expectations.
The majority of the complaining Cannon fodder went on to pretty much nothing of note.
But, that handful of others soared after Cannon.
One of them produced THE LIFE OF PI, another GLORY and a third produced SHREK. A fourth went on to become a top editor on films like RUSH HOUR.
Looking back, I could spot talent early… the talent of being a doer, not a kvetcher.
