REJECTION: CONGRATULATIONS – Part Two

My very first job in Hollywood was standing on the street corner handing out free movie tickets to research screenings.

I got paid 50 cents for each person who took one AND attended.

Needless to say, the rejection rate was staggering.

Most people just walked on by.

Some told me to fuck off.

A small percentage took them and a much tinier percentage of those showed up (and earned me my 50 cents).

I was the highest earning ticket passer-outer at the company.

Partially because I perfected my pitch.

And mainly because I stood on those corners longer and more frequently than anyone else.

And to do that, I focused on the occasional takers, not the much-more-common rejectors.
