A DEMO CAN LEAD TO A LIFELONG COLLABORATION

Just read the amazing interview with Alan Silvestri about how his gamble on new equipment and recording a demo for ROMANCING THE STONE lead to landing that job for Robert Zemeckis. And that lead to the legendary director/composer collaboration on such films as BACK TO THE FUTURE, FOREST GUMP, CONTACT, WHAT LIES BENEATH and CAST AWAY.

I am inspired when I read this. The composer of C.H.I.P.S. created the opportunity for himself to be considered as a major film composer.

I do not read this and think about how Silvestri devalued composers. Nor how he undermined others by demo’ing. I don’t read this and think it contributes to living in a community of fear and jealously of other composers.

I read this and find inspiration about how hard work, talent and risks can lead to making one’s dreams come true.

Thanks Jerome Leroy for posting this extraordinarily inspiring interview with Silvestri.
