Over the years composers have shared with me their bold and wild quests to obtain a seemingly impossible dream.  Sometimes there are composers who have never scored a film demoing for a major feature.  Sometimes there are composers who have a handful of smaller film credits aiming for a blockbuster.

I get excited whenever I hear someone is reaching for the stars.

AND WHAT ELSE ARE YOU AIMING FOR?

I sometimes ask those brave dreamers what other targets they are trying to hit.  And I find a wide range of responses.  Some have targets placed across the range from some nearby, some midrange and some towards the stars.  They are in the constant process of proactively pursuing projects across that range spectrum.  Lots of demos, lots of pushing, lots of game plans.

Others are more narrow in their approach.  Take one giant long short and leave it at that.  All or nothing.  Step up to the plate, take your one swing to knock it out of the park with the bases loaded.  And if that happens… beyond amazing.  And if it doesn’t… that’s it.

PERSONAL CHOICE

I tip my hat to both forms of dreamers who actually take their shot.   Very few people have a dream and really take the actions to pursue it.  With that said, I would advise composers wanting to build a long career in media music  to pursue a wide range of targets.   And to step up to shoot at them over and over and over (and over).

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?
