Had a few interesting conversations today while looking for recommendations for an upcoming show that has an important position for which I am hiring.
While there were plenty of names of qualified people discussed, the talk kept circling back to the PERSONALITIES of the potential candidates.
“He’s a bore,” “She’s a pain,” “He’s annoying,” “He’s too weird” “He’s too negative/cranky” were among the comments being shared.
It became obvious that while there was a plethora of people with the right skill sets and experiences to do the job, there was a much narrower list of people with pleasing personalities to consider. And the people getting strong recommendations had both the skills and the attitude.
WHEN PEOPLE DISCUSS YOU FOR RECOMMENDATIONS WHAT ARE THEY REALLY SAYING BEHIND YOUR BACK?
