A director who has a full-length feature I’d like to work on just asked me this question. I’m sure you all get asked the same thing from time to time. How do you answer it, since budgets vary wildly? He does have a budget (so it’s not a no-money project), but I don’t know what that budget is yet, as he didn’t volunteer that information. I’m sure there’s a clumsy way to find out what he can afford (which I’m afraid I’ll find out through experience), and a socially-acceptable way to find out. 
Any advice on what my reply should be?
