Another industry trend prediction for the future involves an explosion of live performance of media scores.
The awareness and appreciation of media music and its composers has never been greater. And all signs point to that continuing at a rapid pace.
Back in the days when John Williams performed his masterpiece E.T. live to picture it would have been difficult to foresee the explosion of this art form that would follow.
It is now commonplace for orchestras around the globe to perform with picture BACK TO THE FUTURE, STAR TREK, BATMAN, ALICE IN WONDERLAND, LOTD OF THE RINGS, HARRY POTTER, THE GODFATHER, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, TITANIC, RATATOULLE, THE WIZARD OF OZ, HOME ALONE, SILVERADO, GLADIATOR and a slew of others.
Concert performance of Video Game scores is now part of the fabric, too.
This concept has now expanded to incorporate live singers doing musicals like THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and THE LITTLE MERMAID live to film.
The next wave of this phenomenon is about finding ways to do this with smaller films, TV series and games with smaller ensembles.
Wordless Music has been putting together live-to-film concerts of such films as PUNCH DRUNK LOVE, BEAST OF THE SOUTHERN WILD, EVIL DEAD and THERE WILL BE BLOOD.
Jeff Beal is now bringing TV onto the concert stage with HOUSE OF CARDS IN CONCERT as well as the documentary, BLACKFISH LIVE IN CONCERT. Austin Wintory has been doing JOURNEY LIVE.
Exciting times for the appreciation and celebration of media music.
If today is just the tip of the iceberg, where do you see this heading?
